How do I write and update a job safety analysis (JSA)?

A JSA describes job tasks in step-by-step fashion, identifies associated hazards at each step, and outlines proper hazard controls that minimize the risk of injury or illness to the individual(s) performing that task.

The Office of Environment, Health and Safety is available to UC Berkeley departments for initial assistance with development of a job safety analysis and editorial review (510) 642-3073.

Please contact Gary Bayne ( with comments and suggestions about the JSA library.
