Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Requirements

Chemical Hygiene Plan

Labs must have written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when laboratory work involves the use of hazardous chemicals or physical hazards. All lab personnel, who perform hazardous operations, need to document that they have read and understood all SOPs relevant to their research. New students/employees should be given hands-on training by their supervisor for hazardous operations which should include all relevant SOPs.

The EH&S SOP web page has resources and sample SOPs that can be modified for your purposes.

If you are creating a new SOP, read the Laboratory Specific Standard Operating Procedures Fact Sheet and use the SOP template.

For the College of Chemistry – refer to the College of Chemistry EH&S SOP webpage.
