Job Safety Analysis

Job Safety Analysis or JSAs describes job tasks in step-by-step fashion, identifies associated hazards at each step, and outlines proper hazard controls that minimize the risk of injury or illness to the individual(s) performing that task.

Getting Started with Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

How do I write or find a JSA? The objective of providing this library is to:

  • Improve safety awareness among staff
  • Decrease injury rates
  • Make effective JSA resources available to the entire UC Berkeley campus

Create your own JSA

JSAs are available in two formats: PDF and Word. You may download a JSA template in Word format and customize the template for your training and other uses in your department or you may start with an existing JSA found in the JSA library.

The Office of Environment, Health & Safety is available to UC Berkeley departments for initial assistance with development of a job safety analysis and editorial review (642-3073).

Please send ideas, comments, and suggestions about the JSA library to EH&S Specialist Gary Bayne (g_bayne@berkeley.edu).
