Updating hazard assessment and other semester start reminders

August 29, 2024

To ensure new lab members can obtain PPE, please review the following reminders.

1. Make sure your lab's hazard assessment is certified

A new Field Hazards section was added to LHAT earlier this year. If you have not already done so, please complete the field hazards section by following these directions:

Principal Investigators (PIs) or Lab Safety Coordinators (LSCs)

  • Select “Amend” and choose “yes” or “no” depending on if your lab conducts fieldwork.

PIs

  • Certify the hazard assessment. Only the PI can complete this step.

All lab members

  • “Acknowledge” the newly certified assessment.

  • New lab members may not be able to obtain their PPE voucher unless those steps are completed.

  • Learn more about the Field Hazards assessment question.

Other important fall semester start reminders:

2. Update your lab’s roster in Labs @ Berkeley

Use the L@B tool to add new lab members, delete old ones, and click on the “Click here if lab roster is current" button once you are done.

3. Remind new lab members to get their PPE.

New researchers should follow the instructions to obtain PPE

4. Complete a self-inspection if you have not already done so.

Self-inspections should be performed once a year and are checked for completion during the in-person General Lab Safety Inspections, which will be scheduled with your inspector.

Thank you for your continued dedication to maintaining a safe research environment.
