Preparing the Building Emergency Plan Template
  • This template was formatted in Microsoft Word.
  • Once you have downloaded and opened the template on your own workstation, instructions to you (the Building Coordinator) are written in bold text and enclosed in parentheses. To customize the template, replace the blank lines with your building's specific information.
  • Add page breaks after you have filled in the required information and removed the instructions. Add page numbers to the table of contents after you have reformatted your finished BEP. Insert your building name on the footer.
  • After you have completed your Building Emergency Plan (BEP), send an electronic copy for review to EH&S at ehs@berkeley.edu. EH&S may send you an email with suggested changes to your BEP. Once your BEP is approved by EH&S, you will receive an official approval email.
  • The next step is to put the program into action. Send a copy of the approved BEP to all Department Safety Coordinators (or their designee) who have employees in your building. It is the DSC’s responsibility to train his/her staff on the BEP and keep training records.
  • If you need assistance in preparing your BEP, please contact Ave Tolentino at EH&S (643-5734; avert@berkeley.edu) or Treacy Malloy at OEP (642-9036; thm@berkeley.edu).
Downloading Tips
The Introduction to the Building Emergency Plan and the Building Emergency Plan Template you will be downloading were created in Microsoft Word. The documents can be downloaded by Macintoshes, PCs, and Unix systems. Downloadingwill be easiest if your browser's preferences for helper applications are properlyset. You can set helper application preferences to launch your word processingapplication upon receiving the documents or to save documents to any locationyou choose.

If your downloading results in a plain document icon, start your word processing application, then use its "Open" command to open the file. Macintosh users should note that the BEP file is too big to open through Simple Text.

If you'd like technical assistance in downloading these files, contact Cheryl Reinman of EH&S at 642-1978.
