Description

Radiation training and/or a refresher course is required for all employees and researchers who will be working with Radioactive Materials (RAM) and/or Radiation Producing Machines (RPM).

Radioactive Materials (RAM) Users
Each person who wishes to be named on a Radiation Use Authorization (RUA) for possession and/or use of unsealed radioactive materials must attend a RAM User Training class before he/she can be added to the RUA. This requirement applies to the person who will hold the RUA as well as to the other individuals who will work under the RUA.

To enroll in this class, follow the steps below:

Employees, please follow the steps outlined below to register using UC Berkeley Learning Center.

Students and non-employees can contact Tim Bean, the EH&S Training Manager at: mtbean@berkeley.edu or (510) 643-3482 to enroll.

• Log in to BLU.BERKELEY.EDU using your CalNet ID.


• After logging in, "The UC Berkeley Learning Center" is the last listing under self-service in the left hand column.


• Click on the "The UC Berkeley Learning Center" link to see the catalog.


• To access the Radioactive Material User Training, cut and paste the above title into the search box at the top of the catalog page and click the "Go" button.


• Click the "Register" button on the option presented. A list of all the available classes, presented in chronological order, will appear.


• Select the session you wish to attend, then click the "Submit" button at the top of the list. An email will be sent to you confirming your registration.

Sealed Sources Training
All users of sealed sources of radioactive materials must complete the "Read and Sign" training. (HTML)

Specialized Training
Specialized training for topics such as "Irradiator Use" and "Soil Moisture Density Gauges" is available.

Radiation Safety Guidelines for Non-Users
These "Read and Sign" guidelines are for anyone who works near, but not with, radioactive materials.   (PDF)
