Description

EH&S provides radioactive waste management services to the UC Berkeley campus. EH&S picks up waste directly from laboratories or from Central Pick-up Units (CPUs), which are depositories for radioactive waste located in several campus buildings. Refer to Section K of the Radiation Safety Logbook for CPU locations and use restrictions. (The Radiation Safety Logbook is a reference guide to the campus Radiation Safety Manual. Section K is dedicated to radioactive waste requirements.)

Generators of radioactive waste must follow the procedures outlined in Section K of the Radiation Safety Logbook for preparing radioactive waste for EH&S pick-up. Generators should call in pick-up requests to (510) 642-3073.

EH&S also offers training on radioactive waste management at no-cost to campus departments. To request training or for information about packaging and labeling, contact EH&S (510) 642-3073.
