Hazardous material packages originating from the central campus can be shipped only from one of the designated sites listed below:
  • B84 Hildebrand Hall

Please take properly prepared hazardous material packages, with completed certification labels, to one of the campus designated pick up sites and notify FedEx that it is available for pick up.

Contact EH&S for shipments being sent from off-site locations such as the Richmond Field Station.

Note: Personnel at these locations will check your package for the following hazardous materials shipment label and will reject shipments without one. These personnel will not prepare your shipment for transportation. If you need assistance, contact EH&S at 510-642-0373.

Only hazardous material shipments with this label prepared by a certified HazMat shipper will be picked up by FedEx.

Your shipment is "hazardous material" if it contains any of the following:
  • Dry Ice (air or over water shipments)
  • Biological or Infectious substances
  • Genetically Modified Organisms
  • Exempt Human or Animal specimens (air shipments)
  • Toxics and other Regulated Chemicals (e.g. Formalin, Ethanol)
  • Batteries
  • Radioactive Materials (Only Environment, Health & Safety may ship)

Hazardous material shipments have special requirements for training, packaging, and labeling. There are substantial monetary penalties for errors. FedEx will inform the Federal Government of any improper shipments.

If you need to ship hazardous materials and are not trained, please contact EH&S and ask for the Hazardous Materials Shipping Specialist at 510-642-0373 and/or complete the Shipping Assistance request form.
